- Challenge: Design a user profile view for an insult generator to help restaurant patrons
- Difficulty level: Easy
- Time to solve the challenge: 15 minutes
- Assumption: I LOVED THIS ONE! I assumed here that the restaurant patron is using a blogging app (like Medium) to review the restaurants they visit, and this is for personal use. How cool would it be to have an insult generator to make your posts a lot more fun. Similar to Gordon Ramsay’s style.
Thoughts behind the design
I assumed here that the restaurant patron is using a blogging app (like Medium) to review restaurants they visit, and this is for personal use. How cool would it be to have an insult generator to make your posts a lot more fun. Similar to Gordon Ramsay’s style.
I thought a lot about this and concluded two things:
- I assumed that the purpose of the insult generator was to generate words that the patron could use in its reviews and ratings to make it a fun read. And so, I felt that this function didn’t have a use case in the user profile view.
- I felt it would fit better under Settings view, where the users could edit the level of profanity for insults generated as an example, or regulate the number of times the insults were generated.
Final Design
My first part of my design is inspired by the Medium app and the way they have designed their user profile view. My thoughts were if it’s a blogging app, then it would be useful to see and be able to quick edit:
- User name, image and brief description
- No. of followers and following
- latest posts on restaurant reviews
- Personal information at the bottom
Feedback
I showed this to a friend who regularly blogs and the feedback was, maybe the personal information could come below the user description, as all those fields can be edited in one go. The latest reviews could then come at the end.
